Adobe Air Meltdown

September 1st, 2009

It appears Adobe Air had a meltdown at TechCrunch today and nobody seems to know why. An Adobe product failing catastrophically for unknown reasons? Shocking. Anyway, it’s fortunate there was a 100% Adobe-free native Mac OS X Yammer client available for TechCrunch staff members to download. The end result: a switch to Gabble, and “everything is smooth sailing again.” Great news!

Gabble 1.3 Released

August 23rd, 2009

Gabble is now ready for Snow Leopard! This release also adds the ability to send private messages, follow/unfollow users, and includes some new message styles. Full release notes on the Gabble page.

UPDATE: It seems 1.3 is broken on 10.5 Intel so I’ve pulled the update until I can fix it. If you download now from the Gabble page you will get 1.2.1.

UPDATE 2: 1.3.1 is now up, it should fix the 10.5 crashing problems.

Gabble 1.2 Released

August 3rd, 2009

Gabble 1.2 is out, with Growl support, new message animations, customizable font sizes, and more! Head over to the Gabble page to check it out.

Gabble 1.1 Released

July 20th, 2009

I just released a new version of Gabble, my Yammer Mac client, with support for attachments, tags, and some other small enhancements (view the full release notes here). If you’re running Gabble 1.0, you can update directly from within the application itself. If not, you can grab a copy on the Gabble page.

If you encounter any bugs or have any feedback/feature requests, feel free to send me an email or post in the comments. Enjoy!

PC Timeline

April 11th, 2009

Endpoint Technologies Associates recently came out with a brilliant whitepaper (PDF link) describing the “Apple Tax,” the extra amount you pay when buying a Mac vs. a PC. I suggest reading it in detail because their analysis is so flawless that it defies description. However, just in case Adobe® Reader® is a little bit sluggish in loading that PDF, I’ve copied one of the charts from the paper below. It clearly summarizes the difference in price between Mac and PC:

I was inspired so much by this chart that I decided to make my own. For some reason my chart ended up presenting a completely opposite conclusion as the chart by Endpoint Technologies, which is strange because I used an equally rigorous methodology. Granted, my chart probably cost more to make because I used an Apple product (Keynote) instead of MS Excel, so that may account for the unusual results. Nevertheless, I present it below for the purposes of discussion:

Bills are 6-7

December 10th, 2008

Looks like the greatest team ever is taking a break this year to let someone else win the Super Bowl. That’s understandable since they’re not only great but generous. Look for them to take the Lombardi home next year instead.

No surprise, the greatest team ever is on top of the AFC East through the first six games. I figured I’d post some pictures of the hardware the Bills should be bringing home this year:

I recommend purchasing Super Bowl tickets now before they sell out.

Revolutionary Art

October 2nd, 2008

Sometimes you run across a piece of art so monumental that looking at it changes your life. Any artist would be incredibly lucky if he or she created even one such work in a lifetime. Unbelievably, renowned artist Kurt J. Hinterbichler has created nine of them. View them all at the link below, and be prepared for the outcry as art is brought kicking and screaming into a new revolution.

Renowned composer Kurt J. Hinterbichler gives us his visionary new work for page turner and piano. Requiring virtuosic skill from the page turner, this piece should not be attempted without years of turning experience.
